two similar beginnings and one ending. Auster's The Country of Lost Things begins in a similar landscape to Saramago's final city in Blindness. not far from the beginning of McCarthy's The Road. as I go through Auster's book, it will be interesting to see how Saramago plunges into group ethics while Auster plunges into himself.
