Canadian photographer Finbarr O’Reilly wins premier award of the World Press Photo contest. As far as I'm concerned, every photo that involves mother and child shoots straight across my heart. It is so difficult to look at a photo like this and only try to imagine what goes on in this woman's mind in the exact split second when the photo is taken. It's what's at the core of photography - catching that split second - allied to what is worth while documenting - human strife.
