If there is a feeling of America, Sternfeld has caught it. His large scale photographs capture and tell all that I've seen and could not return.

There are things to be said about Sternfeld's images, explanations, justifications, but I just don't feel like it. Letting them be and letting them be what one sees or has been a silent witness to or where one wanders to with them. If anything, state only that Robert Frank has inspired Joel Sternfeld.
