Αs tzatziki is very-very common in a Greek table, allow me to give you a simple/home recipy that I use:
(Notice that I put no garlic at all, because I dislike the fact that your mouth/breath smells for hours after, and that it makes you heavy and sleepy).
Through a hand-grater make a cucumber small sticks, then squeeze them with your hand until you take away all the water.
Put in a bowl with much dill and a little salt, olive oil and vinegar.
Put also yogurt strained and stir them slowly until they become one. (Ι do not put much yougurt-just as much as it takes to stick all the ingredients together).
That is all!
Be careful not to eat it all while making it!
I like the cucumber/yogurt/dill combination, smells summer and happiness.
Thank you, Lemon!!! :) It was the first time I made it and I did it just as you say except I added a little garlic and I used mint instead of dill. Also, I used lemon instead of vinegar. It soooooooo good! I will certainly make it more often. Thank you for your recipe :) Next time I will try dill.
In Greece we do not use mint in food-just drink it, hot, like tea.
Maybe some old ladies put it in herb-pies.
I like talking about food and exchange information about habits in different places: it is like you learn about people's lives.
From Portugal (Viana di castelo) I remember the nice smelling magdalenas-ohhhh, I brought a bag back home :)
And the fish-soup that I liked so much-who? me, who dislikes fish :)
Next time I will try the lemonades and the "omeletes with herbs" that I read so much for, in "Sostiene Pereira".
My love :)
:) I will read Afirma Pereira and try to get some recipes for you. We use mint in food and drink, mostly I think in the southern part of the country. Mint is good! :))
